Cyanotype Workshop at Art Lab, Tottenham Hale

Final Workshop of the Year

On Sunday 23rd November I ran what turned out to be my final cyanotype workshop of the year, hosted by Studio Monde at 318 Art Lab in Tottenham Hale.

It was a genuinely lovely day, with a wonderfully mixed group in the space — a fashion photographer, a still life photographer, graphic designer, people already exploring analogue practice, and a few who simply wanted to spend a day making something creative with their hands.

In this short workshop everyone submitted an image beforehand, which I converted into hand-prepared digital negatives ready to print on the day. From there we worked slowly through the process: coating papers, talking about brush marks and materials, exposing images in the light, and then that special moment when the print first hits the water and begins to reveal itself. We also explored toning and different ways of pushing cyanotype beyond the familiar blue.

As always, what I enjoyed most wasn’t just the prints themselves, but the atmosphere — conversations, shared discoveries, quiet focus, and that feeling that everyone is finding something slightly different in the process, even though we’re all working with the same chemistry.

It was a generous, curious group and a really lovely way to close the year’s teaching. Huge thanks to Studio Monde and Art Lab for hosting, and to everyone who came along and trusted the process.

Below are the images and video from the cyanotype workshop at 318 Art Lab by Studio Monde.

The images and video give you a glimpse of the quiet but fun, hands-on atmosphere — the brushing, washing, toning, conversations, experiments and small discoveries that happen along the way as people learn, play and push the process further.
