Join me for an enlightening one-day taster workshop, where we’ll delve into the art of 19th-century photographic gum bichromate printing.

Our day begins by discussing digital negatives tailored for gum bichromate printing. Then, in a hands-on session, we’ll blend watercolour pigment, ammonium dichromate, and gum arabic to form a light sensitive emulsion. This emulsion will be carefully painted onto to watercolour paper, followed by exposure to UV light with a digital negative.
After exposure, the prints will undergo development in plain tap water.

As this is a taster course, we’ll explore the concept of creating images with multiple layers. However, due to time constraints, we’ll focus on a maximum of two layers. Nonetheless, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence necessary to finalize your image at a later date.

As part of this workshop preparation, attendees are encouraged to submit two colour digital images (300 dpi at 10” on the long side), one week prior to the workshop. Details regarding the submission process will be provided upon registration.
